Winter is here (as my fellow Game of Thrones fans would say) and a cold snap has settled in over the skyline of New York City. With the recent swirl of snow and storms, what better time for me to provide the readers of EazyCityBlog.com with a list of … ice cream shop recommendations?
You may laugh at the idea, but something about the snow, frost and ice makes me want to eat something cold. Admittedly most of my favourite ice cream places in New York City were discovered last year when I was wandering around the city during the hot summer months, but if you, like me, like something cold during the winter, you may find some of the following recommendations useful…
Soft Swerve

Anyone who has read my list of top five ramen restaurant recommendations in New York knows I’m a fan of Asian food. This means that Soft Swerve, an ice cream shop on the Lower East Side with Korean-inspired flavours, is right up my alley. Their menu features flavours ranging from ube purple yam to matcha green tea, and their brightly coloured cones and toppings make for the perfect Instagram picture (in addition to being delicious, of course).
Taiyaki NYC
Warm fish cone waffles deliciously paired with matcha and matcha/black sesame seed swirl flavours.
Soft serve is my favourite kind of ice cream (sorry if this offends anyone), but Taiyaki NYC makes soft serve that little bit extra special by serving it in a warm fish-shaped waffle cone. Once again ticking the box for me on the Asian foods front, this Japanese dessert is the perfect balance between hot and cold. If you happen to be visiting this little shop in Chinatown on the Lower East Side, I recommend you try the black sesame seed or matcha green tea flavours!
Morgenstern’s

Moving out of Chinatown and into Little Italy, be sure to stop by Morgenstern’s, an artisanal ice cream parlour featuring one of the biggest and most innovative menus I’ve ever seen in my life. There is usually a line of people waiting outside Morgenstern’s ( it’s that good), but in my experience (and there have been multiple experiences) it’s always worth the wait.
10Below Ice Cream
There’s always room for more raspberries and chocolate sauce.
I had never heard of the concept of ‘rolled’ ice cream before I paid my first visit to 10Below Ice Cream in the Lower East Side, but my first experience was enough to keep me going back for the rest of the summer. Pick your favourite flavour and watch the connoisseurs at 10Below Ice Cream heat it on a plate, then quite literally ‘roll’ it before your eyes in the same way you might except someone to roll up a crêpe. Pair with some delicious fresh fruit or a syrup sauce of your choice, and you’ll be presented by the 10Below staff with a little tub from heaven. This little chain is so popular that it’s rapidly expanding, and has three different locations in lower Manhattan alone.
If you’re ever visiting New York you absolutely must stop by one of these, you will love them I promise!
