I\u2019ve now reached the one month mark where I am working as an Au Pair in New York<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0I left home one month ago and it seems longer but arriving in New York just feels like it was yesterday!<\/p>\n

The past two weeks have been very busy. I\u2019m feeling a lot more settled in now and also I got my driver\u2019s license<\/strong> this week!<\/p>\n

Before coming to the States<\/strong>, check and see if the state you\u2019re going to requires you to take a driver\u2019s test.\u00a0Even if you have been a qualified driver for some time, some states require you to take their own drivers test.<\/p>\n

Here in North Carolina<\/strong>, it is mandatory to take a variety of tests to enable you to drive<\/strong> in the state. The test consists of answering a series of questions on a computer, taking a vision test, reading a variety of the roadsides and finally the driving section. In total, for me, the entire test was less than 1 hour.<\/p>\n

To check and see your state’s law on driving, go to the DMV website<\/a><\/strong> and enter your state or postcode (zip code)<\/p>\n

On the last weekend of January, I went to my very first cluster meeting<\/strong> and we went to go rock climbing. I was excited about going as it was my first time meeting all the other Au Pairs\u00a0in New York<\/strong><\/a>!<\/p>\n

\nFrom the cluster meeting, I was able to exchange phone numbers and had a few friend requests on Facebook<\/strong>. It was good to meet other Au Pairs – now we meet up to go out, go for coffees and for brunches – which is so so popular here and with so many great coffee places<\/strong> and cafes – you’re spoiled for choice.<\/p>\n

I have been going to the local gym and have been out running. So, if you’re into fitness <\/strong>like me, don\u2019t worry about letting it slide because there are so many opportunities to keep fit and stay in shape – even when the food is so good!<\/p>\n
