Hi everyone ! My name is Rodolfo. I’m 27 years old and I’m an Italian from Sicily. In this short article I will write about my history and feeling about Ireland. I have a Bachelor degree in Economics at University of Catania and a Master degree in Economics and International Trade at University of Parma.

I’m a person that like to travel and to know different culture indeed during my studies I have participated to Erasmus program. Last year, thanks to this program I’ve been for one year in France in Lyon city. This experience it was amazing, because give me the possibility to know many people from different countries with a different background from my, to improve my English and French language skills because my lessons were in English. Moreover I became a wine expert because I taste several kind of wine and this is one of the most important things. After Erasmus I came back in Italy for graduate but my thirst to live abroad it wasn’t satisfied. Indeed I’m here in Cork for doing an internship with a Leonardo project and today is my first day in EazyCork.
“EazyCork” is a company that offer various services such as accommodation, cv translation, employment assistance, work placements, English courses and au pair placements. I am working in marketing department in an international team(Spanish, French and Italian) and I think that I will love to work in this sector and with them.
I came in Ireland for improving my English knowledge and for doing a professional experience. I arrived in Ireland three weeks ago and the most important things that took my attention are: Irish people, they are very friendly. All the people smile to you and it is very easy do conversation in a pub with your table neighbor.
The geography, there are wonderful natural landscape and amazing place that you have to visit. In Ireland there are four main city that are Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick, the remainder part is composed to small and medium town.
The weather  it is very strange, during one day the condition can change one thousand time. Rain, sunlight, wind can happen during one day in different time or all together in the same time.

Last but not least thing is the night life, in Cork there are several pub where you can find easily live music nice beer and people. Being an university city you can find a lot of students and people from different part of Europe that came here for improving their English. If you like the beer you are in the right place, there are several and tasteful beer.
I can suggest to came in Cork for studying or working experience because the city is very nice, Irish people are very friendly, you can meet people from different part of the world, there are many beautiful place to visit, it is not expensive live in Cork and you can improve your English.

Ciao a tutti! Mi chiamo Rodolfo, ho 27 anni e vengo dalla calda Sicilia.

In questo breve articolo vi racconterò la mia storia e le mie sensazioni sull’Irlanda. Sono un neolaureato in Economia e International Business all’Università di Parma, amo molto viaggiare e conoscere culture differenti dalla mia, infatti durante i miei studi universitari ho partecipato al progetto Erasmus. Grazie a questo progetto, l’anno scorso ho vissuto per un anno in Francia nella città di Lione, dove ho avuto la possibilità di conoscere molte persone provenienti da differenti paesi e con una cultura e un modo di pensare differente dal mio. Questa esperienza mi ha aiutato a far crescere le mie capacità personali e professionali, inoltre ho migliorato le mie competenze linguistiche in inglese e francese, perché le mie lezioni universitarie erano tenute in lingua inglese.
Durante il mio soggiorno francese sono diventato un sommelier fai da te grazie ai miei amici francesi che mi hanno fatto degustare tantissime tipologie di vino.

Dopo l’Erasmus sono tornato in Italia per discutere la mia tesi e per laurearmi, ma la mia voglia di vivere all’estero non era ancora del tutto soddisfatta. Per questa ragione mi trovo a Cork, ed oggi è il mio primo girono di tirocinio con EazyCork.
Eazycork è una compagnia che offre differenti servizi come traduzione del cv, assistenza nella ricerca del lavoro, organizza corsi di inglese, sistemazioni in appartamenti, escursioni e visite guidate.

Gli irlandesi, sono persone estremamente amichevoli,ed è veramente facile comunicare e fare amicizia con loro soprattutto nei pub.
La geografia, ci sono magnifici posti e paesaggi che si devono visitare e quattro principali città: Dublino, Cork, Galway e Limerick. Tutte le altre città o paesi sono molto più piccole.

La entrega del pase es gratis en España y viene acompañado por el mapa de Europa en InterRail (también descargable en la web). Además con vuestro pase podréis obtener descuentos especiales en trenes, ferrys, hoteles, atracciones, etc. Por ejemplo puedes viajar GRATIS en ferry de Italia a Grecia y visitar la isla de Corfú.

Los precios varían mucho dependiendo del tipo de pase, el tiempo y la edad que tengáis. Podéis conseguir el One Country Pass desde 53€ y el Global Pass desde 181€, con descuentos para niños y mayores de 60 años. Y ten cuidado con el primero de ellos ya que no podrás utilizarlo para viajar desde tu propio país al país elegido, por lo que tendrás que añadir los gastos de desplazamiento hasta el país a visitar.

Mardi 30 Avril, le gouvernement irlandais a présenté, un projet de loi visant à autoriser l’avortement seulement si la vie de la mère est  en danger par sa grossesse. Ce projet est très limité cependant la  libéralisation du droit à l’avortement suscite un vif débat dans ce pays qui est le seul parmi toute l’union Européenne à avoir complètement interdit l’interruption volontaire de grossesse (IVG). 

Ce projet de loi, soutenu par le partie de gauche appelé Sinn Fein ainsi que par les indépendants, a toutes les chances d’être voté par les deux chambres du Parlement irlandais et ce, malgré l’opposition des membres du parti au pouvoir, le Fine Gael (centre droit). Ce simple changement de loi provoque une vive polémique dans ce pays catholique de 4,5 millions d’habitants. En janvier, 25 000 personnes sont descendues dans la rue pour s’opposer à toute légalisation de l’avortement.

Tout ceci a été relancé en automne après la mort d’une femme qui s’est vu refuser une interruption de grossesse à Galway. Savita Halappanavar, une dentiste de 31 ans originaire d’Inde, est décédée en octobre dans un hôpital public de Galway où elle s’était présentée, enceinte de 17 semaines, et se plaignait de fortes douleurs au niveau du dos. Informée qu’elle allait faire une fausse couche, elle a demandé à plusieurs reprises que l’on mette un terme à sa grossesse. Les médecins ont cependant refusé de le faire tant que le cœur du fœtus battait. Elle est morte de septicémie quelques jours plus tard, en soins intensifs.

Cela dit ce n’est pas la première fois qu’un incident de ce genre arrive en Irlande. En effet, la Cour européenne des droits de l’homme avait condamné l’Irlande en 2010 pour avoir contraint une femme enceinte atteinte d’un cancer de ne pas avorté et qui a dû aller à l’étranger pour le faire. Plus ou moins 4 200 Irlandaises, selon les estimations, se rendent ainsi chaque année au Royaume-Uni et sur le continent pour une interruption de grossesse.

L’Irlande a voté par référendum en 1983 l’interdiction complète de l’IVG et l’a inscrite dans sa Constitution. A la suite d’une décision de la Cour suprême de 1992, l’avortement a été autorisé dans le cas où la vie de la mère est en danger. Aucune loi n’a cependant été votée pour faire appliquer cette décision. Le projet de loi sur “la protection de la vie maternelle” constitue une libéralisation limitée. Il n’autorise pas l’avortement dans les cas de viol, d’inceste et d’anormalités observées sur le fœtus.

Il lettore universitario lavora in stretta collaborazione con il docente titolare della cattedra di italiano presso l’Università straniera. L’orario di lavoro ammonta ad una media di 36 ore settimanali e per candidarsi bisogna essere in possesso di una laurea. Nell’esercizio delle loro funzioni, i lettori possono avere l’opportunità di lavorare direttamente con l’Istituto di Cultura, nel ruolo di vero e proprio operatore culturale.

-       Assistente di lingua italiana all’università 

L’assistente di lingua italiana in Inghilterra svolge le sue attività sotto la guida del docente straniero.
L’assistente lavora per circa 12 ore settimanali contribuendo alla promozione e alla conoscenza della lingua e della cultura italiana all’estero. Viene garantita l’assistenza sanitaria ma le spese di viaggio e di soggiorno all’estero sono sempre a carico dell’assistente.
Il lavoro inizia il 1° ottobre in Inghilterra e Galles, invece in Scozia e Irlanda del Nord il 1° settembre e termina per tutti il 31 maggio con una retribuzione che varia dai £7,000 ai £9,000 (€10,500 – €13,500) per un contratto part-time.

-       Insegnante presso corsi organizzati dal consolato 

Anche il consolato italiano in Gran Bretagna organizza i corsi di italiano. Per conoscere le informazioni sul bando di concorso e le possibilità esistenti, gli insegnanti di ruolo devono rivolgersi al Ministero degli Affari Esteri. Gli insegnanti non di ruolo, invece, possono contattare direttamente la Direzione Didattica della circoscrizione consolare di Londra, Edimburgo o Manchester a sito del Consolato Generale d’Italia a Londra.

-       Insegnante presso le scuole britanniche 

E’ possibile diventare assistente di lingua italiana presso scuole britanniche di vario ordine e grado, escluse le Università. L’Assistente di lingua svolge la propria attività sotto la guida di un docente straniero di lingua, contribuisce alla promozione e alla conoscenza della lingua italiana facendo conversazione guidata per circa 12 ore settimanali.

Tra i  paesi in cui è possibile svolgere quest’esperienza, previo accordi culturali con il Governo italiano, c’è appunto il Regno Unito. Per candidarsi bisogna avere la cittadinanza italiana, aver sostenuto almeno due esami di Lingua e letteratura inglese ed essere iscritti almeno al terzo anno presso un’università italiana ad uno dei seguenti corsi di laurea:
- Corso di laurea triennale (ex D.M. 509/99);
- Corso di laurea quadriennale (ex D.M. 341/90);
- Corso di laurea specialistica (ex D.M. 509/99).

-       Insegnante di italiano nelle scuole private 

Per candidarsi alla posizione di insegnante nelle scuole private viene richiesta una precedente esperienza nel settore. Per fare domanda è necessario inviare il proprio CV attraverso le pagine gialle inglesi su questo sito (nella ricerca vi consigliamo di usare la parola chiave “language schools”)

-       Insegnante a tempo indeterminato presso le scuole britanniche 

Il foglio informativo del British Council ‘L’insegnamento Formazione Professionale ed Assunzione’,  è un documento informativo destinato a tutti coloro che intendono insegnare la lingua italiana presso scuole britanniche a tempo indeterminato. Per ulteriori informazioni consultare il sito del British Council

Per  abilitarsi all’insegnamento della lingua italiana in Regno Unito è possibile conseguire un titolo di studio denominato Teaching Italian as a Foreign language (TIAFL). Per maggiori informazioni consultare il sito dell’Istituto Italiano di Cultura a Londra.

Gli insegnanti inglesi non vengono assunti dal Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione britannico e il numero annuale dei posti a disposizione varia  a seconda delle regioni. Secondo fonti ufficiali i periodi di maggiore richiesta per gli insegnanti, vanno da marzo a settembre e da novembre a dicembre.

Le sport en Irlande comme dans la plupart des pays anglo-saxon est très pratiqué.
La plupart des Irlandais le pratique dés leur plus jeune âge est continu à le pratiquer durant leurs études au sein des clubs universitaires.

Le sport est très populaire en Irlande avec une fréquentation des spectateurs pour les différents sports très élevés.

Pour les Irlandais le sport les sports les plus populaires sont les sports gaéliques :

-Le Hurling

-Le Football gaélique

Les sports gaéliques sont des sports que nous décririons en France comme légèrement brutaux, mais très agréable à regarder. Les autres sports très populaires en Irlande sont le rugby et le football.

•   Le Hurling 

Le hurling sport gaélique extrêmement rependu en Irlande est un jeu qui se joue à 15 contre 15 chaque joueur est muni d’une crosse nommée « camán » ou «  hurley » dont le but est très simple mettre la balle dans le bute adverse c’est une balle un peu plus grosse qu’une balle de tennis mais sur tous beaucoup plus dur ! Ce qui implique sensément le port d’un casque sachant que la balle peut atteindre 110 km/h malencontreusement il n’est pas obligatoire de jouer avec…! Le Hurling est considéré comme un sport violent car les joueurs vont très vite avec la balle et leur crosse et peuvent se dégager ou prendre la balle par un coup d’épaule.

•  Le Football Gaélique 

Le sport le plus populaire en Irlande  très peu rependu en Europe c’est un sport qui est un mélange entre le football, le rugby, et le basket Ball.

Le football gaélique se joue à 15 contre 15 avec un ballon similaire à un ballon de football un peu plus lourd.  Les joueurs peuvent jongler, tirer, lancer, dribler et attraper le ballon, le seul but est de mettre le ballon dans les cages, c’est un jeu fascinant à regarder et très technique, je vous laisse vous faire votre propre avis avec cette vidéo. : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEAbWrdB9XU .

•   Le Rugby 

Le rugby reste un sport populaire malgré la concurrence des sports gaélique, on peut l’expliquer par l’implantation  mondiale du rugby en Irlande. L’équipe du trèfle Irlandais est reconnue mondialement comme une des meilleurs équipe au monde de rugby.

•  Le Football 

Sport qui se place derrière le rugby en thermes de popularité en Irlande mais qui reste tous au temps dans le cœur des Irlandais qui suivent énormément le championnat Anglais la « premier league » ou joue les meilleurs joueur Irlandais, c’est ainsi qu’on peut apercevoir des pubs à l’effigie de ces clubs Anglais..

Effectivement le championnat de football irlandais n’est pas beaucoup suivi, les clubs se limitent souvent à la formation de jeunes pour qu’il aille jouer au Royaume-Unis.

Malgré son faible championnat l’équipe d’Irlande est dans le top 50 au classement Fifa, les français  se rapperont surement de ce match de barrage pour la coupe du monde 2010 à ou la France l’avait emporté sur l’Irlande un but à zéro sur une mains de Thierry Henry.

Hello !! My name is Romain !!! I’m 21 years old and I live in Paris in France. I am currently in my third year of school of management called EMLV at La Défense.

First of all I lived in Amsterdam for 6 months with the Erasmus program from August to January, it was an incredible experience where I met lot of foreign students and where I improved my level of English. Now I have to do an internship for 4 months in Cork at the marketing department in the company “EazyCity”. I’m very happy to work in this department because I would like to specialise in this sector. Moreover Eazycity is a company with a great expansion and I think I will do lots of interesting projects.

I would like to share with you my first impressions about Cork:

When I arrived in Ireland the first thing that shocked me was the bad weather, in fact there is lot of wind and rain every time and it’s not normal for me to have this kind of weather but it’s just a detail!

It was a great surprise to see that Irish people are very friendly, if you are lost or you need something, they will always try to help you.

I drank very good beers in Amsterdam and here beers are also good, if you are a beer enthusiast it’s the place where you have to go!

Moreover Cork is the second biggest city in Ireland after Dublin, but to me it’s a little cute town with a very good ambience during the night. In fact, Cork is also a city where a lot of students live, for example I’m living in a house close to the center with 10 other students who are here to work or to practice their English. But you can imagine that during the weekend students want and like to go out.

Why Cork is a good city to work in or to visit?

Firstly, if you want improve your level of English it’s a very good place to do that, in fact it’s not too difficult to understand Irish people even if you have a bad level of English. Moreover, the life is not too expensive and the food is good.

If you are a student you have to come because living with lot of students is a great experience to develop your English and yourselves.

To finish there are beautiful landscapes where nature dominates.

Je suis très heureux de travailler dans ce département car j’aimerai me spécialiser dans ce secteur. De plus, Eazycity est une société qui connait une très forte expansion et je pense de ce fait que je vais être amené à réaliser de nombreux projets intéressant.

J’aimerai partager avec vous mes premières impressions à propos de Cork :

Lorsque je suis arrivé en Irlande, la première chose qui m’a choqué fût le mauvais temps, en effet il y a tout le temps beaucoup de vent et de pluie et ce n’est pas habituel pour moi d’avoir ce type de climat mais c’est juste un détail !

Ce fût une bonne surprise de voir que les Irlandais sont très sympathique, si vous êtes perdu ou que vous avez besoin de quelque chose ils essayeront toujours de vous aider.

J’ai bu de très bonne bières à Amsterdam et ici les bières sont aussi très bonnes, si vous êtes un amateur de bières c’est ici que vous devez aller ! ;)

De plus Cork est la deuxième plus grande ville d’Irlande après Dublin, cependant pour moi c’est une petite ville pleine de charme où il y a beaucoup d’ambiance pendant la nuit.

En effet, Cork est aussi une ville où résident beaucoup d’étudiants, par exemple je vis actuellement dans une maison proche du centre avec 1O autres étudiants qui sont ici pour travailler ou pour améliorer leurs niveaux d’anglais. Mais comme vous pouvez vous imaginez les étudiants veulent et aiment sortir le soir !

Pourquoi Cork est une bonne ville pour voyager et travailler ?

Si vous souhaitez améliorer votre niveau d’anglais c’est un très bon endroit pour vous exercer car ce n’est pas trop difficile de comprendre les Irlandais même si vous n’avez pas un bon niveau.

Par ailleurs, il y a de nombreux magnifiques paysages où la nature domine.

Pour terminer, si vous êtes étudiants vous devez venir à Cork car vivre avec beaucoup d’étudiants est une très bonne expérience pour apprendre sur vous même ainsi que pour pratiquer votre anglais.

The “Callan Method” was developed in 1959 from the English-teacher Robin Callan. 

Nowadays, many schools offer courses based on this methodology of teaching.

The course is traditionally divided into 14 stages, or “levels of learning”, which were published for the first time with the release of 14 books (one per level) in 1960. One year later Robin Callan founded the first Callan-school in Salerno, southern Italy.

In 1997 London could count 70 classes and more than 2400 students following the Callan method.

In 2008 Callan formulated a new method specifically designed for the Teach-Each-Other, according to which two students can learn English teaching each other.

But what are the characteristics of the Callan Method?

Each lesson is divided into three different blocks:

- Listening and speaking;

- Repeat and assimilate;

- Read and write.

During the first two blocks, the teacher keeps direct contact with the students, with a rapid sequence of questions and answers (with an average of 50 questions per hour). In this way, no time is given to the students to mentally translate the questions in their native language.

It’s therefore an intensive method: according to the University of Cambridge it takes about 350 hours of traditional study to reach the “Preliminary” level. With the Callan method they are reduced to 80!

So you can learn English faster.

What are the additional benefits of the Callan Method?

- It can be adapted to any age and level of English;

- The program of “question and answer” in rapid sequence forces the students to speak English from the first minute;

- Grammar is learned in a practical form;

- Students learn actively, the method of continuous interaction helps maintain the concentration necessary without affecting the attention of the class.

Yahoo! is expanding Dublin operations centre, adding more than 200 new employees in the next 12 months  as a result of the expansion in the Irish capital.

The company has already started recruiting for customer support, technology, operations, HR and finance which will support Yahoo’s business across the Europe, Middle Eastern and Africa (EMEA) region.

The creation of 200 brand new jobs for Dublin, in effect, means that the company is doubling its workforce in the capital.

 Yahoo! opened its doors in Dublin in 2003, and what started as a small team has already grown into a multilingual and multicultural workforce today.

Senior Yahoo! executives met with both An Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton as part of Ireland’s Industrial Development Agency (IDA) investment missions over the past year.

Stécie is a French girl living and doing an internship in Cork. She will go back to France in September to go on with her studies in Event Management. This is her interview!

• Who are you and what do you do in Cork?
I am Stécie ans I am 21 years old. I come from Nantes (France). I came here to do internship and improve my English.ç

• Why did you choose Ireland and particularly Cork?
In 2010, during a school trip, I stayed in Dublin. I completely feel in love Ireland and its landscape. I always wanted to return. When my old school offered me to do a 6 month internship, I did not hesitate.

• What do you think about Irish people?
Two simple words to reflect the Irish: welcoming and warm.

• Your favorite activity in Ireland?
Discover the different landscapes, walking in the city and surrounding areas to take pictures.

• What do you miss about France in Ireland?
I miss my family and my friends. Concerning the food, I miss the French baguette, “saucisson” and “real beef”.

• What you will miss in France?
I think I will miss my new friends in Cork, they became a new family for me.

• If you had to do it again, what would you change ?
If I had to do it again, I would. I do not think I would change something because I’m enjoying a lot my experience. Everything is going well for me here (host family, internship and entertainment).

Admise en juin dernier au BTS Assistante de Gestion PME-PMI, Stécie va reprendre ses études au mois de septembre dans le domaine de l’évènementiel.

• Qui es-tu et que fais-tu à Cork?
Je suis Stécie. J’ai 21 ans et je viens de Nantes (France). Je suis à Cork, en stage professionnel pour améliorer mon anglais.

• Pourquoi avoir choisi l’Irlande et plus particulièrement Cork?
En 2010, lors d’un voyage scolaire, j’ai séjourné à Dublin. Je suis si l’on peut dire “tombé amoureuse” de l’Irlande et de ses paysages. J’ai toujours voulu y revenir. Quand mon ancienne école m’a proposé de partir 6 mois à Cork, je n’ai pas hésité.

• Que penses-tu de l’accueil irlandais?
Deux simples mots pour refléter l’accueil Irlandais: Accueillant & Chaleureux.

• Ton activité favorite en Irlande?
Découvrir les différents paysages, marcher dans la ville et les environs pour prendre des photos.

• Ce qui te manque en Irlande?
Niveau sentimental, ma famille et mes amis me manquent. Niveau nourriture: le vrai pain, le saucisson et le vrai bœuf .

• Ce qui va te manquer en France?
Quand je serais de retour en France, mes collègues de travail qui sont devenus comme une seconde famille vont me manquer. C’est incontestable.

• Si c’était à refaire que changerais-tu ?
Si c’était à refaire, je le referais. Je ne pense pas que je changerais quelques choses car je pense profiter comme il se doit de cette expérience. Tout se passe très bien pour moi ici (famille d’accueil, stage et sorties).

Hola a todos! Me llamo Esperanza, tengo 26 años y vengo de Sevilla, una de las ciudades más soleadas del sur de España.

Hace ya tres años que terminé mi carrera universitaria en Publicidad y Relaciones Públicas con la que pude descubrir que, con imaginación y creatividad, todo es posible. Desde entonces he realizado un máster en Protocolo y Organización de Eventos y otro en Marketing y Relaciones Externas, con el que empecé mi aventura con el inglés al ser completamente en este idioma.

Hace unos meses tuve la oportunidad de optar a una beca para poder vivir una experiencia profesional en el extranjero y mejorar mi inglés y ahora estaré tres meses aquí, en Cork, viviendo mi momento y descubriéndome a mí misma.

En realidad confieso que mejorar mi inglés fue sólo una excusa para dejarlo todo atrás y empezar una nueva vida en un nuevo país. Conocer gente nueva y vivir nuevas experiencias ha sido mi objetivo principal desde hace meses, sin importar el destino. Cork fue sólo una agradable casualidad  que me está permitiendo encontrar lo que estaba buscando, a pesar de echar de menos a familia, amigos y, sobre todo, al Sol.

Hi everyone! My name is Esperanza, I’m 26 years old and I’m from Seville, one of the sunniest cities in southern Spain.

I finished my university studies in Advertising and Public Relations three years ago. Thanks to them I realised  that, with imagination and creativity, everything is possible. After that, I have done a master degree in Protocol and Event Organization and another one in Marketing Management & External Affairs, with which I started my adventure with English: it was completely in this language.

A few months ago I had the chance to apply for an intern-ship to live a professional experience and improve my level of English abroad, and I will stay here for three months, in Cork, living my time and discovering myself.

I actually have to confess that improve my English was just an excuse to leave it all behind and start a new life in a new Country.

To know new people and to live new experiences have been my main objective for months, without thinking about the destination. Cork was just a casualty that it’s letting me find what I was looking for, although I miss my family, friends… and the sun above all!
